Who is AFTH Helping?

Your participation, donations, and generous support from sponsors like T&N Homemade Kitchen are helping birthparents in the community get back on their feet. Two birthmother’s shared with us their experience.

“Choosing adoption for my baby was the right thing. I work full time but at minimum wage, I was just making ends meet with my two other children. My C-section left me unable to work for 8 weeks. Without a paycheck, I couldn’t pay rent and was getting evicted. AFTH covered two months of rent so I could keep my apartment. I’m back to work now but I can’t imagine having to take my children to a shelter because I couldn’t go back to work right away after having a baby.” -Lori, who received assistance from the Birthmother Fund.

“When I found out that I was pregnant, I felt as though my dreams of becoming a nurse were out of the question. After placing my child through Adoptions From The Heart, I realized just how important it is to get an education. AFTH helped me get there. I am now an RN, at a children’s hospital, doing what I love.” -Courtney, AFTH Birthmother who received a scholarship from the Birthparent Scholarship Fund

A Runner’s Perspective

Still not convinced you should participate in the 4th Annual Find Her Footing 5K? Adoptive father Chris has been a long time supporter of Adoptions From The Heart, he said “adoption has been, and continues to be, a big part of our family. My wife and her two sisters are all adopted – her youngest sister was actually adopted through AFTH! My wife and I adopted our son through AFTH in December 2013 and he is the greatest thing that has happened to us, and AFTH made it happen so we want to continue to support the agency.” He continued to explain that this is the most challenging 5K course he has ever run. “Most 5K runs pride themselves on being “flat & fast” but this course is just the opposite. Just when you think you can take a break on a flat surface, think again! The hills present a challenge to even the most experienced runners. I always look forward to this 5K since it is so challenging, and I feel a sense of accomplishment at the finish after getting over all of the hills.” His advice for those looking to get in shape for the Find Her Footing 5K? “Run a lot of hills, and don’t shoot for a personal record – just get through it!”
