Mile Walk, Community Fundraiser event, AFTH Families, Great Day, Supporting a great cause

Our Find Their Footing Mile Walk event was a great event that brought families together to walk for a great cause. This year we decided to switch things up and instead of doing our 5k we decided to do a mile walk. We also decided to have different pop up locations so that families from all over our different agencies could attend. The different pop up locations this year were Allentown, Cherry Hill, Chesapeake, and Bryn Mawr! We were so happy to have participants from all over and all ages for this year’s Find Their Footing Mile Walk.

Cherry Hill Pop Up

Our Cherry Hill location was one of our popular locations! The event took place at Jake’s Place Playground located at 101 Bortons Mill Road, Cherry Hill NJ 08034. This park is absolutely beautiful and there were several other families at the park at the time of our event. In the center of the park was a large playground where kids were playing. There was also a baseball going on and another fundraiser during this day. This pop up event was lead by our Events Coordinator Julie and our AFTH ambassadors Katie, Jackie, Lucas, Paris, and Jibre.

The route for the Mile Walk took participants on a scenic journey through the park, passing by a baseball field, a bocci ball court, an outdoor workout section, a large gazebo, and the beautiful playground. Along the way, the AFTH ambassadors all made sure all the participants were doing well and had great conversations with everyone. While passing by the gazebo we all decided to take a group photo to remember the day!

As we finished the walk we all gave each other a round of applause and then we announced our giveaway! One family won a $25 gift card to Applebee’s and the other a $15 gift card to Westmont Diner.

At the end, we all took photos together and families that worked with AFTH in the past were able to connect with their favorite social workers!

Chesapeake VA Pop-Up

Our next pop up of the day took place at Oak Grove Lake Park located at 409 Bryon Street,  Chesapeake VA 23320. This is a very beautiful park that has a large lake located in the center and around the walking trail. Our AFTH Mile Walk Ambassador was Nicole and after guiding the whole group on the mile walk around the peaceful serene lake. After the mile walk was completed the families got together and spent time with one another!

Bryn Mawr Pop Up

Our next pop-up was located at Ashbridge Memorial Park on 1301 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr PA 19010. It was nice to have families show up in support of AFTH’s Expecting and Birth Parents. They walked around the park and it was a beautiful day to be outside. Our families got to the opportunity to play outside and make beautiful memories. Here are some pictures from that location!

Allentown Pop-Up

Our last pop up was at Trexler Memorial Park located at 155 Springhouse Rd, Allentown PA 18104 on Sunday April 28th. This is a beautiful park that is surrounded by large old trees, a duck pond, and a great scenic view. The weather was absolutely beautiful in the high 80s and it was a nice Spring day. The walk was lead by our AFTH Mile Walk Ambassadors Amanda, Ciera, and Jamie! When the participants arrived, they looked for an AFTH sign that guided them to where to go. Upon arrival, there were all the snacks and drinks for our participants.

The walk started along a beautiful paved path were families can push their strollers and walk together. Our families got the opportunity to catch up and even meet new families whom they haven’t met before. After the mile was was completed everyone gathered together to announce the giveaway winners. We had a grand prize for two tickets to see the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Minor league baseball game, a wiffle ball bat, two tumblers, a coloring book and more! Our second prize winner received a tumbler and gift card. Overall, the families had a great time getting together and walking for a great cause!

Conclusion:

The goal for the Find Their Footing Mile Walk was to get families together to have a great time in support of AFTH. The funds raised through donations supported the AFTH’s Expecting and Birth Family Fund. Which will help Expecting and Birth families in need for food, supplies, or other necessities. Participants left with a sense of pride knowing that their steps had made a difference in the lives of others.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the our event to walk for a great cause. It was a good opportunity for families to get together, get outdoors, and spent time with one another. We hope that this event filled the families with memories of a day filled with laughter, friendship, and accomplishment. Until next year, we hope we can continue to walk together towards a brighter future, one step at a time.
