Annual Picnics

Unfortunately all of our 2020 picnics have been canceled due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines.  We recommend that all families who normally have schedule visits check out our recommendations for visitations and staying connected during this time.

Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware Picnic

The AFTH picnic is all about family fun and celebrating reunions. We had a beautiful day and the sun shone down on adoptive and birth families. Donning matching face paint, a birth mother and daughter pair who had reunited after ten years couldn’t wait to talk about what it’s like to be together again. “I got a call one day from my social worker who said your daughter wants to meet you and within a month we met for the first time in ten years,” the birth mother explained. “The picnic is the perfect way to reconnect without feeling pressured,” she continued. “There is a lot to do, it is much different than the first time we attended ten years ago, and I really feel like I can be myself.”

Adding to the atmosphere was Hailez Comets, the new band this year, playing great hits from the 50s, 60s, and 70s; which could be heard throughout the park. Children and adults enjoyed dancing and singing to the music.

We had amazing sponsors this year: Cofsky & Ziedman, LLC, University of Penn Hospital, Key Business Solutions, Kling & Diebler, LLP, Bob’s Red trucks, and Goldfish Swim School. The children enjoyed face painting, crafts and of course the ice cream. Thank you to board member Thom and his family for grilling hotdogs for everyone to enjoy along with all the snacks generously provided by KIND Snacks, Wawa, Ambler’s Pizza, Giant,  and Herr’s.

The raffles were a huge hit again this year bringing in over $1,200 for the AFTH’s Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund. Congrats to all the winners and a special thank you to all the companies that donated to the raffles: Soul Cycle, Oasis Family Fun Center, Longwood Gardens, Speed Raceway, Kids First Swim School, Dutch Wonderland, YMCA, Dave & Busters and much more.

It was another wonderful picnic celebrating adoption. Thank you to everyone who was a part of it. We hope to see you again next year.

Virginia Summer Picnic

On Sunday June 23, 2019 families connected through domestic infant adoption came together for a day of fun at the Virginia office picnic. This year’s picnic at Chesapeake City Park Fun Forrest was one for the books! Adoptees, adoptive parents and birth parents from the Greater Chesapeake area and beyond reunited for a day of family fun and catching up. VA annual picnic had 10 AP/BP visits with multiple extended birth family members joining, and total of 80 attendees.

Connecticut Summer Picnic

It was a picture-perfect day for the CT Picnic at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport on June 23rd. Almost 70 people came out to enjoy reconnecting and relaxing while seeing the animal exhibits and giving kids space to run and play. We had 7 adoptive families visiting with their children’s birth parents and siblings, and several families had multi-generational, large groups present. AFTH staff were happy to greet so many beautiful families and our birth parents were very grateful that all the families attended.
