History Of The Wigle Name
Did you know that American whiskey was created in Pittsburgh? Pennsylvania was the core epicenter of American whiskey production in the 1700s and 1800s. This distillery was named after Phillip Wigle, one of the pioneers in the 1790s.
During the Whiskey Rebellion, Wigle protected himself against tax collectors and was among the first to go against George Washington’s troops. Because of this rebellion, he was initially sentenced to hang for treason but was luckily pardoned by George Washington himself.
Wigle Roots
The distillery opened to the public in 2012 and is family-owned and operated. During the beginning of whiskey production, the standard was a spicy, earthy rye; therefore, Wigle’s goal was to recreate this tradition with its own twist. Since then, they’ve grown tremendously and now operate a garden and barrelhouse.
Creativity, passion, and innovation are the roots of Wigle and have helped make tons of regionally inspired whiskeys and spirits made from organic ingredients.
