History
One of the most prominent landmarks in Pittsburgh, the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, was established to honor the veterans from all branches of services that date back to 1910. The idea stemmed from the Grand Army of the Republic, a group made up of Civil War veterans who wanted to dedicate a memorial for all the fallen soldiers to educate others on the sacrifices made to protect their society.
With success, the “Memorial Hall” finished its construction in 1910 and continues to honor the women and men of Pennsylvania who served in the United States military during the course of history.
The Museum
A large assortment of objects and artifacts have been donated to the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum over the last 100 years that represent a piece of history that tells tales and stories of the veterans who fought for our country. These stories are told through exhibitions, special exhibits, videos, and veteran memorabilia that shares history from the Civil War up to the present day.
The artifacts on display throughout the luxurious halls made up of marble, bronze, and oak showcase American military apparel and fascinating accessories and pieces that were brought home from war veterans that now share a story of their experiences and sacrifices that were made in order to get home safe.
