Willington, CT
Located within Toland County, Connecticut, Willington is considered a small town with a population of about 6,041 as of 2010. Willington is about 25 miles northeast of the capital of Hartford that also extends out to Boston, MA. The town has a total area of 33.5 square miles of both land and water.
History
In 1720, a group of eight English settlers purchased 16,000 acres of land and named it Wellington, which later began incorporated in 1727. Grazing and lumbering were well-suited to the settlement.
The town steadily grew commercially and industrially after centuries of agriculture.
In the 19th century, Willington had a thread and cotton mill, three silk factories, a scythe factory, four comb factories, button mills, and glassworks that manufactured several types of flasks.
Demographics
Information provided by the Census of 2000 stated that there were about 5,959 people, 2,353 households with 1,437 families within Willington. The racial diversity of the town is made up of the following:

- 3.02% Asian
- 1.81% Hispanic or Latino
- 0.08% Pacific Islander
- 0.12% Native American
The median household income for the region is about $51,690 and for families, it’s about $70,684.

Pop Culture
Willington made its debut on a Fox tv show called Fringe as the location in which the show took place in one of the seasons. In the episode, the serial killer went on a crime spree in and around Willington, showing off a variety of the town’s landmarks and notable areas.
