Founded in 1888, Jeannette is a city in Westmoreland County, PA, whose name originated from one of the cities founding fathers who wished to honor his wife, Jeannette. The small populated city has around 10,000 residents, 4,600 households, and 3,000 families within the cities borders.

Historical Information
The most prominent historical moment that marks the oldest reference to Jeannette was during the Pontiac War in 1763. During this war, American Indians were unhappy with British rule, so numerous tribes joined together in an effort to conquer the Great Lakes region and drive out British soldiers.
Another is the Bushy Run Battlefield, a huge victory for the British that allowed them to secure control over the Ohio River Valley. Later, Bushy Run Battlefield Park was founded and became a Pennsylvania State Park in the 1920s along with a National Historic Landmark in 1960.
The various glass factories that were built in the area gave Jeannette the nickname “the glass factory,” with those factories adding to the city’s original stature as the first major manufacturing town in Westmoreland County. Evidently, the glass industry had such an effect that the city was named after Jeannette E. Hartupee McKee, the wife of local industrialist H. Sellers McKee, who founded the company the Chambers and McKee Glass Works.
Since the booming of the glass industry, the Elliott Company in 2018, received approval to purchase the former Jeannette Glass site, to extend their operations in the downtown area.
