In a state with over 70 craft breweries, Flying Fish is the oldest and largest one in New Jersey. Craft beer aficionados will love enjoying a couple of pints in the brewery’s tasting room or taking a guided tour where you can see how all of your favorite brews are made. We recommend checking out the following features during your trip to Flying Fish Brewing Co.
Tasting Room
The brewery’s spacious and well-lit tasting room is where you can indulge in a couple of your favorite Flying Fish beers. The long, picnic-style tables are always great for conversation if you’re in a big group, and if you’re there on a crowded night, you might even make some new friends sitting on the other side of your table.
The tasting room is opened from 3-9 pm on Wednesday through Friday from 12-6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Barrel Aged Wednesdays
Every Wednesday, the tasting room taps a new barrel-aged beer at 3 p.m. This is always a fun event and gives you the opportunity to try a unique beer that you can’t easily find outside of the brewery.
Tours
The brewery offers both guided and video tours. The guided tour is our favorite part of visiting the brewery, and we usually start here before finishing our visit in the tasting room. When beer is being brewed, you may not be able to see all of the brewery, but the staff will do their best to give you a peek at the process.
The video tour is good, but we recommend going for the guided tour if you can. Your knowledgeable guide will give you a deeper look into the brewing process. Just sign up for a tour in the tasting room when you arrive at the brewery.
Our Favorite Beers
With a total of 15 beers on their roster (some of them seasonal), Flying Fish has something for beer lovers of all types. We’ve tried just about all of them, and have several seasonal and year-round favorites. If you’re not sure what to try during your first visit there, we recommend the following brews:
- Hoppy Java – If you like coffee beers and IPAs, Hoppy Java’s hop-intensive IPA with a hint of coffee flavor is a perfect choice.
- Farmhouse Summer Ale – This light summer ale features two-row pale malt and 7% wheat. It pairs well with spicy foods.
- Abbey Dubbel – One of our favorite beers from any brewery, the Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel won the silver medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival.
- Extra Pale Ale – This original American pale ale is flavored with two-row malt and imported Munich salts.
- Daylight Savings IPA – A complex session IPA with a Pilsner base and Vienna Malt, along with Warrior, Azacca, and Citra hops, and hints of mango and grapefruit.
