Meet Roberta Evantash, our Manager of International Services! Her dedication to helping families throughout the adoption process drives her work at AFTH. In addition to helping clients, she also was a part of her relative’s adoption journey.
Tell me more about your personal connection to adoption.
I have worked at AFTH almost from the beginning of its inception. I had the pleasure of running AFTH’s former China Program which placed hundreds of children in their forever homes.
I can recall lots of great memories over more than 30 years working at AFTH. One special moment in particular was on a Friday in 1991, I got a phone call from Bryn Mawr Hospital about an emergency placement. I immediately went over and met the expecting mother. As it turned out, she picked my son-in-law’s sister and her husband to be the adoptive parents to her newborn son. They placed their son with my relatives over the following weekend. It was so exciting and heartwarming to be a part of this wonderful occasion. Five years later, the same relatives adopted a baby girl again through AFTH’s NJ office.
What aspects of working at AFTH impacted you the most on a personal level?
Over the years, I have seen so many adoptees grow up, catching up with them at all the family occasions. It has really been a privilege to watch the children blossom into adulthood while knowing I was a part of their family building process.
