Our Connecticut adoption professionals think that it’s important for kids to continue learning even after school lets out. Fortunately, there are many quality afterschool programs in the Manchester region, where your kids can have enriching experiences outside of the classroom. Here are some of our favorites:

New Britain Youth Theater

The New Britan Youth Theater offers some great after-school programs for kids who have an interest in the performing arts. If your son or daughter is a bit of a ham, joining a program here could help them build their acting skills. Maybe one day in the future, the skills they learned here will help them land a starring role in a high school play. The New Britan Youth Theater also offers homeschool programs teaching skills like acting, music, and improv.

Educational Resources for Children, Inc (ERfC)

ERfC is a program that runs several before and after-school learning centers. There is one teacher for every ten students, and kids in these programs can learn new things and engage in a variety of fun activities, such as:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Sports and games
  • Homework and studying
  • Learning centers
  • Fitness and nutrition
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)
  • Career exploration
  • Literacy support
  • Community service learning

These programs are held at schools throughout the Enfield, CT area, but students from other school districts are welcome to join (as long as they have transportation to a learning center).

The Academy of Martial Arts and Personal Development

Located right in the heart of Manchester, the Academy of Martial Arts and Personal Development runs a well-rounded after-school program for local kids. This program is extremely convenient, as they even provide transportation from your child’s school to the center. After they arrive, the kids have the opportunity to work on homework with help from the staff if they run into any hard problems. Next, they’ll have some play time where they can blow off some steam. Finally, participants will be instructed in martial arts, which is a useful skill in and of itself but also helps build valuable skills and discipline that can be applied to other parts of life.

Bristol Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club is a great afterschool program option for families on a budget. They offer 3 and 5-day programs and have locations throughout the state, including several in Bristol and Hartford. The programs here offer homework help, enrichment classes, and a variety of fun STEAM-related activities.

Oddfellows Playhouse

Oddfellows Playhouse’s mission is to help young people learn to appreciate and become engaged in the performing arts. There are programs for kids of all age groups, and they offer Saturday and afterschool programs which change with each season.

Here are some of the programs that were offered in the recent Spring 2018 afterschool session:

  • Movers & Musicians (ages 5-7)
  • Jr. Circus (ages 5-7)
  • Musical Mentors (ages 5-7, 8-11)
  • Circus Arts (ages 8-11)
