Adoptions From The Heart’s Paper Heart Project in honor of National Adoption Month
For almost ten years, Adoptions From The Heart celebrates National Adoption Month with its Paper Heart Project. For the month of November our AFTH Offices are asking local businesses to support National Adoption Month by displaying paper hearts. Supporters can purchase a heart for $1 a piece. Buyers can write their names on the heart to signify their donation and spread adoption awareness in the community. All proceeds benefit AFTH’s Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund, which helps birth parents financially during pregnancy with things such as transportation costs, rent, and doctor’s appointments.
National Adoption Month originated as a week-long celebration in Massachusetts in 1976 (then known as “Adoption Week”). In 1984, President Gerald R. Ford made Adoption Week a national event. Over time, that week-long celebration evolved into a month-long celebration, implemented by President Bill Clinton. In fact, the President makes a proclamation every year to announce that November is National Adoption Month.
National Adoption Day takes place on a Saturday in November. National Adoption Day was established in 2000 by a coalition comprised of The Alliance for Children’s Rights, Children’s Action Network, Freddie Mac Foundation, and Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Thousands of adoptions are finalized in courtrooms across the country. It is truly a momentous occasion. This massive celebration gains traction every year, as more states and courtrooms get involved.
In 2017, AFTH raised close to $1,000 for the Paper Heart Project. Our business participants included LevLane Advertising Mathnasium, Bounce Town, Piscataway High School, and more. If you are a business interested in participating in the 2018 Paper Hear Project, please contact Sara at SaraM@afth.org or fill out our online form here: Paper Heart Project Registration.
AFTH is asking businesses to register by Friday, October 19th at the latest. Interested in supporting our project? Visit your local office or business to purchase a heart. You can also make an online donation here, and have your heart hung at your local office. Thank you for your support during National Adoption Month!
