Located in Hartford County, the town of Wethersfield dates back to the early 17th century and happens to be right along the Connecticut River. Wethersfield was initially named “Watertown” from the word Pyquag, from the Native Americans. Over time, the town went through some name changes from Watertown, to Weathersfield, to Wythersfield, finally ending with its permanent name, Wethersfield.

The United States Census of 2000 shared that there were about 26,268 individuals, 11,214 households, and 7,412 families that resided in Wethersfield, CT. Of the population, the racial diversity was:

Historic District & Culture
Wethersfield dates back to the early 17th century, so as you can imagine, it’s full of historic landmarks, places and is known as one of the oldest historic districts in the state. The top three most famous historical landmarks in the area that can be found on the National Register Historic Place are as follows:
- Buttolph-Williams House: one of the town’s oldest standing homes
- Joseph Webb House: a beautiful Georgian-style home that was known for holding a 5-day conference for General George Washington in 1781
- Silas Deane House: the historic house now remains a museum that exhibits history and objects from its past owner, Silas Deane, the first foreign diplomat for the country
