Education System
The School District of Pennsylvania is the primary school district in the area for residents living in Philly and the neighboring regions. Because of the limited number of public schools in Center City throughout the 1940s, many inhabitants attended public schools in distant neighborhoods and private schools up until the establishment of Greenfield School in 1954.
Until the early 2000s, the school district started constructing other public schools within Center City to avoid families from leaving the area. These schools can be found in Rittenhouse Square, Society Hill, South Philly, Fairmount, and Northern Liberties.
