History
Dating back to the 17th century, the land where Bloomfield currently sits originally belonged to the Poquonocks. Settlers first arrived on the land in 1660 as part of Windsor that was later named the Parish of Wintonbury in 1736. The name “Wintonbury” is a blend of three neighboring towns of Windsor, Farmington, and Simsbury. On May 28, 1835, the town was officially incorporated as Bloomfield by the Connecticut General Assembly.

Bloomfield is a small town located north of Hartford, the capital of Connecticut. It shares a border northeast with Windsor, north with East Granby, west with Simsbury and Avon, and south with West Hartford and Hartford. Bloomfield is surrounded by a few notable locations such as Farmington River, Talcott Mountain, Penwood State Park, and Metacomet Trail.
Demographics
Information provided by the census of 2010, Bloomfield had an estimated amount of 20,000 people, with about 8,000 households and about 5,000 families that resided in the town. The town’s racial mixture is made up of approximately 35% White, 57% African American, 5% Hispanic or Latino, and less than 2% of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American.
