History
Founded in 1923, the new golf club was designed by entrepreneur A. Franklin Meehan. During that time, Ashbourne and Spring-Ford had acquired the land and called on Meehan to hold the responsibility of creating the layout of the golf course.
The club was originally open in June 1923 under the name Edgehill Golf Club. After purchasing more land, funded by the members of the club as well as the owners, the club expanded its grounds.
Frank Meehan laid out a wide and varied 18-hole course – the topography was challenging but not hilly, leaving an appealing stretch of beautifully laid out holes for golfers to play. A few years later, the club retained its first golf professional, Scottish-born John B. Carruthers.
In 1927, the club changed its name to incorporate the stream that runs through the courses property. Mr. Meehan held office as president until 1936 and was later taken over by William A. Crooke.
