Founded in 1991, the Hollow Oak Land Trust is a nonprofit conservation organization that protects and connects green space with an emphasis on the Pittsburgh Airport Corridor. Hollow Oak owns five different conservation areas with over 550 acres across all.
The conservations are located in Franklin Park, North Fayette, Hopewell, Moon, and Kennedy. The organization strives to protect and maintain wildlife habitats, including forests, slopes, wetlands, and meadows.
Over the last 28 years, the organization is most proud of its assistance in creating the Montour Run Watershed Association and helped fund the development of the Montour Trail.
Current Economic Development On The Land
The area has renewed its abundance of natural amenities in recent years, embracing the parks and rivers and focusing on green space. Outdoor recreation activity is at an all-time high, and neighborhood expectations have become a persistent top priority for new trails.
The Montour Woods Greenway is a project organized by both Hollow Oak and Moon Township to establish a 10-mile trail loop that will link three parks with over 300 acres of conservation space.
Sharing local nature reserves with hiking and biking trails is a privilege that is free for all, thanks to organizations like the Hollow Oak Land Trust. For exercise, refreshment, and relaxation in nature, Greenways offer great opportunities close to home.
