Michener Art Museum
This article is brought to you by the adoption agency in Doylestown from Adoptions From The Heart.
History
The Michener Art Museum today, was renovated from what used to be Bucks County prison in 1884. After the County Commissioners decided to save the historic landmark and lease the land and buildings to house the new museum, the vacant and antiquated structures were torn down and left the massive stone walls and the warden’s house.
On September 15, 1988, the museum opened to the public after undergoing extensive renovations. The old Buck County jail is now known as a historical hub of culture and beauty.
The museum boasts 35,400 square feet of land, with an outdoor sculpture garden, landscaped courtyard, a terrace located where the prison yard once was, seminar facilities, a café, museum shop, and the famous Nakashima Reading Room.
