There’s nothing like fall in Chesapeake, when the air gets a crisp bite and the leaves start to change into their brilliant colors. Our Virginia adoption agents love taking our families out to enjoy the variety of fall activities offered throughout the city. Here are some of our favorites:

Greenbrier Farms Nursery

This is one of our favorite places to pick pumpkins as a family during the fall. For $12, your family will get a hayride to the patch and have the chance to play fun fall games during their pumpkin-picking experience. They also have a petting zoo, which always makes for a fun way to cap off your day.

Greenbrier Farms has a variety of pumpkins to pick at their patch, including:

  • Max Gold
  • Jack O’Lantern (small pumpkins)
  • Lumina (white pumpkins)
  • Two different pie pumpkins
  • Atlantic Giants

Hickory Ridge Farm Fall Festival

Every fall, the family-owned Hickory Ridge Farm holds a fall festival on their 18-acre farm in the Hickory section of Chesapeake. During the fall months, the farm stand opens with fall decorations, pre-picked pumpkins, and all kinds of locally-made snacks, pies, ciders, donuts, kettle corn, salsas, pickles,  jams, and other treats. They also open a play area with hayrides, a bounce house, and pony rides.

We love coming here for the you-pick pumpkin patch, which has a variety of different pumpkins and gours. Kids can also have a fun time playing in the children’s corn maze and hay bales while listening to a DJ with interactive games.

Mount Pleasant Farms Fall Festival

Each autumn, Mount Pleasant Farms holds Fall on the Farm activities on select weekends in October. Kids always have a blast here with fun features like wagon rides through the orchard, a corn maze, a huge straw pile, a corn pit, pumpkin-picking, a playground, and a petting zoo. Mount Pleasant also has plenty of great take-home items and gifts in their Country store, along with decorative pumpkins and gourds and local produce.

Dismal Swamp Art Festival

The Dismal Swamp Art Festival is a harvest-themed festival held at the Canal Trail of the National Wildlife Refuge. Both local and nonlocal fine artists make the trip to sell and share their artwork over the course of this 2-day event. They have live music and a variety of fall-themed food and drinks, including craft beers and hot apple cider. There are also plenty of kid-friendly harvest activities, making this an event that the whole family can enjoy together.

Corn Maze at Bergey’s Breadbasket

If you like a good corn maze, Bergey’s Breadbasket has you covered during the fall. This large corn maze has all kinds of fun extras, like photo ops, wagon rides, a corn cob shooter, pedal tractor course, sports section, straw maze, petting zoo, and so much more.
