The Clemente Museum, located in Lawrenceville just north of Pittsburgh, is housed in the historic Engine House 25. Over the decades, Curator and Director Duane Rieder have carefully and renovated this Engine House 25 to expand the world’s biggest collection of baseball artifacts, works of art, writing and publications, remembrances, photos, and other relevant items.
All pieces in the collection are focused on baseball player Roberto Clemente and his team, including items from his personal life and philanthropic causes he worked on over the years.
Who Is Roberto Clemente?
Roberto Clemente made his debut for those unfamiliar with him when the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted him in 1954. From then, Roberto became known as the greatest baseball player of his time and used his fame to represent the community during a time where social justice and racial and cultural prejudice were on the rise.
Clemente used his voice and his skill on the field to silence the hate while standing for those less fortunate. Over his 18-year baseball career, he received numerous awards given in Major League Baseball and made his mark as a humanitarian who helped children and youth through his passion for baseball.
The Museum
The museum, filled with artifacts, photographs, and various memorabilia, provides educational material to museumgoers during their visit. They are open by appointment only, so if you’re interested in exploring the museum, be sure to call and set up a reservation ahead of time.
