Allegheny, PA
Allegheny City was a community in Pennsylvania, United States, that existed from 1788 until 1907, when it was acquired by Pittsburgh. It was situated north of downtown Pittsburgh, across the Allegheny River, with the Ohio River forming its southwest boundary, and is now recognized as the North Side. Along the Allegheny and Ohio rivers, the city’s shoreline region became known as Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

History
In 1788, the land on which Allegheny was placed was developed by John Redick, a well-known pioneer figure of that time. During that time period, the state government sold the properties in Philadelphia or gave them to Revolutionary War veterans as a recompense. Allegheny was then incorporated as a borough in 1828 and later as a city in 1840.
Most of the region was still farmland before the 1850s, but it was split into housing developments, initially for the rising of both German and Croat immigrants. The annexation of Allegheny City by Pittsburgh started in 1906 and was completed in 1907, after a historic ruling by the United States Supreme Court in Hunter v. City of Pittsburgh that year.
