Located in Westmoreland, Irwin is a borough southeast of Pittsburgh with a small population of about 4,000 stated in the United States Census in 2010. The borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles of land and is full of industrial and residential areas.
A Bit Of History
The borough was named after John Irwin, the property owner of the site. John Irwin was the nephew of Colonel John Irwin, an Irish soldier who served in the British Army. The land including the mansion that remains between Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue still stands and has been passed down from generation to generation.
The mansion named Brush Hill, previously named “Old Scull House,” was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 2789 as a two-story, Federal-style residence.
