The suburb was originally named “Athensville in 1852, which later was renamed in 1873 to its current name “Ardmore” by the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Demographics

The CDP was 76.8% White, 12.9% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 4.1% Asian, 0.1% Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, 4% Hispanic or Latino, and 3.4% other races based on the 2010 census. Of those races combined, the census from 2000 shared that there were approximately 12,616 residents and counting with over 5,000 households and over 3000 families.

Education System

Ardmore comprises two school districts, Lower Merion School District and the School District of Haverford Township. There are a variety of prominent graduates who have attended Lower Merion High School, including from oldest to most recent:

Ardmore Presbyterian Church

The Ardmore Presbyterian Church, located on the intersection of Montgomery Avenue and Mill Creek Lane, is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church. The church was originally constructed in 1910 and held its first service in September of 1910.

In 1962 the church underwent renovations and was rebuilt as a Memorial Chapel, with added details such as stained glass windows and a refurbished interior, used today for intimate worship, weddings, and funerals.
