Not All Superheroes Wear Capes

Find Her Footing 5k

Our 7^th Annual Find Her Footing 5k was held on Sunday, April 28^th . This year we brought the event to the mainline to West Laurel Hill. The race benefited Adoptions From The Heart’s Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund, which provides financial assistance to birth mothers both during and after pregnancy. Birth mothers in the past have received help with rent costs, transportation costs, and much more. We are happy to announce that we raised over $1,700 this year.

Many people showed up in their superhero attire to support the 5k’s theme. Starting with the Kids’ Dash, children were draped in superhero capes, masks and clothing. We welcomed over 50 participants despite the rainy weather. This year we had volunteers from Villanova University’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega and Lower Merion High School’s Build On club.

Mary, one of the Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund recipients, gave encouragement to the runners before the race started and reminded them why they were running. Runners and walkers were able to put a face to the cause they were supporting.

Once again, our raffle baskets were full of fabulous prizes. Some prizes included a signed hockey puck from the Philadelphia Flyers, Diamond tickets to the Philadelphia Phillies, tickets to different family friendly attractions, various restaurant gift cards, free training from various gyms in the area, and free parties from the Flyer’s Skate Zone and Wynnewood Lanes.

We would also like to thank all our sponsors this year: The Law Offices of Deborah E. Spivack (Superman Sponsor), Republic Bank (Batman and Robin Sponsor), Tompkins VIST Bank, Orange Theory and Penn Medicine. We also had delicious treats from Edible Arrangements and Nothing Bunt Cakes. We were able to raise over $250 with our no-sweat donations campaign this year. Additionally, we received over twenty dozen bagels from Original Bagels, 300 bananas from Trader Joe’s, 200 Kind protein bars and water from Wegman’s. They have continually supported our events throughout the years, and we are very grateful for their contributions.
