As you know, the social workers and staff at Adoptions From The Heart are the backbone to our entire operation – making open adoptions possible every single day. On our Facebook page, Adoptions From The Heart, we have taken time every Friday afternoon to highlight someone at our agency and share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with the agency and open adoption. We gathered some of those posts together to display just how wonderful the staff here really is, this time from some of the Supervisors!

Open Adoption

Danielle, Delaware Supervisor

My favorite part of the job is helping our clients. I enjoy assisting expectant parents find a family for their child and being there to see adoptive parents expand their family. Adoption has always been close to my heart. I have family members that are adoptees, including my husband, sister-in-law and niece. I can see first hand how adoption is a wonderful way to build a family. I would like to let people know that open adoption is not as scary as one might perceive initially.

Chelsey, Leigh Valley Supervisor

My favorite part of the job is getting to work with both birth parents and adoptive parents which allows me to see all aspects of the adoption triad. It also allows me to educate adoptive parents on why birth parents make adoption plans as well as educate birth parents on why adoptive parents choose adoption as a means to grow their family.

One of the reasons I was drawn to AFTH as an organization because there is no discrimination when it comes to the adoptive families we work with. For example, not all adoption agencies work with same-sex couples and single parents, for me personally this speaks volumes about AFTH.

Ashley, Wynnewood Supervisor

My favorite part of my job is getting to be a part of the first meeting between expectant parents and prospective birth parents is so rewarding. It’s such an honor to be a part of the beginning of a relationship guaranteed to last a lifetime thanks to open adoption. Watching people commit to and build open adoption relationships out of respect for one another’s roles and love for the child is a beautiful thing.

I wish that people knew that adoption is an act of love, and that people who place their babies for adoption are some of the strongest, most resilient people in the world. Making an adoption plan is one of the hardest decisions a birth parent will ever make, and having the option of open adoption can make the decision feel just a little bit easier.

Susan, Connecticut Supervisor

My favorite part of this job is without question, making that special call to my adoptive family letting them know they were selected by a birth parent. It is the highlight of any day (or night) when I have the privilege to help them first hear all the details about the baby that they will go on to adopt, and to share their joy and excitement at this milestone!

What drew me to AFTH as an organization was the stability of the agency, the professionalism of our staff, and our commitment to respecting all members of the adoption circle.
