It’s #FlashbackFriday with Adoptions From The Heart! Recently our team has been going through the office and uncovering some treasures from our past. As you’ll see, there hasn’t been too many changes since the days of these relics. We’ve been providing service and support to all members of the adoption triad while advocating for open adoption since the day AFTH began in Maxine Chalker’s basement!
The Adoption Agency
Did you know that when AFTH opened its doors in 1985 “The Adoption Agency” was actually the name of the organization? Check out this poster from our early years. Our name may have changed, but our commitment to
supportive services hasn’t.
“We want you to be confident that adoption is the right choice for you and your baby” reads the description under Support For Birth Parents, and it still rings true today. AFTH is an adoption agency, but we know that it might not be the right choice for everyone. We are here to help expecting and birth parents understand their choices, make the best choice for their situation, and have support in whatever that may be. AFTH also continues to provide hope for adoptive parents waiting to build their loving families through adoption. Waiting can be an emotional process, but we are always here for prospective parents to give them the support they need to reach their dreams of family.
AFTH Gains Attention
Wow! Adoptions from The Heart has gotten some amazing notice over the years! While our primary aim is to support the members of the adoption triad while placing children in safe and happy forever homes, getting the word out about adoption is important too! These clippings from both national and local outlets have shared stories involving AFTH in regards to open adoption, international adoption, adoption loss, AFTH practices and events like our Annual Family Picnic, and the basics of the adoption process!
Communication with The Adoption Triad
We uncovered a lot of VHS tapes with footage from AFTH events, commercials, and more! This commercial may not show the fancy smart phones of today, but it does show how AFTH is always there for expecting parents considering adoption. One other difference that we’ve noticed since this commercial is the involvement of birth fathers in the adoption process. We have been happy to see many more fathers involved and speaking out about their experiences in the past years. Search the hashtag #BirthFatherFriday to see some content on these brave and loving men!

One of the biggest changes AFTH has created has come in the last year. We have always been committed to Open Adoption, but now we have a “Minimum Openness Policy.” By requiring prospective parents to be open to the elements of this policy in order to work with us, we can better ensure that everyone involved in the process can feel fulfilled and understood. AFTH is proud of the changes we’ve made, but we are even more proud that so much of our past is the same. Since day one the triad and openness have been priority. We are Adoptions From The Heart.
