Our Virginia adoption agents think a round of golf is one of the best ways to relax on the weekend. It can also be a fun way to bond with your spouse if he or she plays and your kids if they have an interest in learning the game. Some of our favorite places to play golf near Chesapeake include:
Cahoon Plantation Golf Course
Cahoon Plantation is one of the best golf courses in the Chesapeake area. It’s a fairly challenging course, so seasoned golfers will have a good time here. The course is also maintained very well and has bent grass. The greens and fairways are consistently in peak condition. If you need supplies, they have a well-stocked pro shop featuring a variety of equipment from all of the biggest name brands. Cahoon Plantation is normally our first choice when we’re looking to play a round of golf on a nice day in Chesapeake.
Chesapeake Golf Club
Chesapeake Golf Club is located in the picturesque village of Las Gaviotas, in central Chesapeake. It’s only a 15-minute drive from downtown Norfolk, making it a convenient course for those living in the South Hampton Roads. The semi-private facility offers annual golf memberships but also allows public play. They also offer swimming pool access with a membership.
The course is 6,243 yards and in a Par 71 layout. Golfers are challenged by the course’s doglegs and water hazards. Other features include:
- Bent grass greens
- Bermuda fairways
- Pro Shop
- Practice chipping green with sand trap
- Two practice putting greens
- Club rentals
- Traditions Grill restaurant
- Locker rooms with hot showers
Battlefield Golf Club
Battlefield Golf Club has an 18-fairway links-style course, featuring rolling hills and fairways, tiered greens, and strategically positioned bunkers and water hazards for an extra challenge. This demanding course will challenge even seasoned golfers, with 35 to 40 feet elevation changes adding to the unpredictability of the course.
Each year, Battlefield Golf for the Club hosts one of the largest military fundraising tournaments for the Folds of Honor Foundation.
If your kids are interested in golf, you can sign them up for one of several Jr. Golf Camps here.
Greenbrier Country Club
Greenbrier Country Club is home to a world-class 18-hole championship golf course with a driving range and full practice facilities. Because it’s located at a country club, we think Greenbrier is the most family-friendly golf course in the Chesapeake area. You can enjoy a round of golf while your family has fun playing tennis, swimming in the pool, or enjoying themselves elsewhere at the country club. Meet up for a family dinner and enjoy the rest of the evening together for a great family weekend day.
Bide-A-Wee Golf Course
Bide-A-Wee used to be a golf course hampered by narrow, small greens that fell off drastically on the sides, but a renovation during the 1990s has made it an enjoyable course. This challenging course maintains narrow greens but has more overall green space for a more well-rounded course. Other features include sand bunkers, waste areas, grass bunkers, and eight ponds.
