History

Dating back to 1925, George Auerbach purchased the farmland in Bloomfield with the purpose of continuing his family’s legacy as agricultural farmers. A couple of years later, Mr. Auerbach passed away and left the land to his wife, who dedicated her life to making the land one of Bloomfield’s most prominent farms.

Over the years, the farmland proved its worth and became well-known for its latest farming technology used to raise chicken. In 1955, the beloved barn that housed a variety of cattle was lost to a fire, but all animals were saved. Nevertheless, the burning of the barn put major setbacks on the growing agriculture.

Upon her passing in 1968, she was able to donate her Guernsey dairy herd to the University of Connecticut Animal Science Department. In 2015, the remaining 40 acres of farmland was donated to the State of Connecticut to become a state park, managed by the State Park Scenic Reserve.

Park Activities

Auerfarm State Park is known for its amazing hiking trails that span over 40 acres of land to explore. The Connecticut Forest and Park Association provides guests with a list of hiking activities and programs to choose from. There are tons of ways to experience the trails by either joining an educational hike, a personal hiking exploration, or signing up for a program offered by the parks association.
