To say it was an honor to film the Delaware birth parent support group sessions would be an understatement. We have so much respect for those birth mothers for using their voice and allowing themselves to be vulnerable for the purpose of showing others they are not alone. It is no secret that strong women support women, and this AFTH TV special showcased that in more ways than one.
These women are much more than a support system, they are family. A f
amily of selfless birth parents who are there to listen, laugh, cry and learn from one another. Online birth parent support groups are indeed therapeutic. While online support groups are great for the sake of convenience, meeting in-person creates a connection with others that cannot be made through the computer screen.
As of now, the only in-person support that AFTH offers is through our Wilmington, Delaware office. For many of our birth parents, the cost of transportation is what stands in the way from attending these in-person groups. Eliminating the burden of transportation costs could open the door to more birth parents throughout Delaware and those in close proximity to our other AFTH locations reap the benefits of these in-person support groups. That is where YOU come in! In order to keep these groups going strong we are now accepting donations to help with transportation, along with other costs relating to refreshments, childcare during the group and fun activities.
