About

Built in 1892, the Bost Building was originally constructed as a hotel for Homestead workers and became the center of the most historically relevant event in American labor history – the Homestead Lockout and Strike. The building served as the main headquarters for the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers, and members kept watch over the daily activities performed at the mill site.

Not only did it serve the labor workers during the Homestead Lockout and Strike, but it also was a hub for the British and American newspaper editors who would write daily events during the labor strike. Nearly 100 years later, the building was granted a 4 million dollar budget for renovations and received a National Historic Landmark designation.

In 2002, it opened to the public as the Visitors Center for the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area.
