In the beginning of January 2019 the AFTH TV crew traveled down to our Delaware office for filming of the upcoming special “The Unheard Voices of Birth Mothers.” Each month the Delaware office hosts their birth parent support group. Amanda Aliberti, an adoption counselor based out of the AFTH TV Wilmington office, runs the support group each month. The group is all about having that network of people who have been through a similar life event, placing a child for adoption.
Amanda explains why the birth parent support group is so important and meaningful for these birth mothers:
“In 2017 I started the Birthparent Support Group here in Delaware to bring my clients together, to not only talk about their stories but to really lean on one another and become significant mentors in their community. My goal was to give these women a safe place to share their experiences of placing a child for adoption. A space for women to come together to talk/ cry/laugh and create positive tools to improve their lives! The recent filming of AFTH TV with this specific group of ladies is giving a voice to an unspoken topic of women’s strength, courage and determination to fight for the best life for their children. It has been my privilege and honor to counsel and support my clients! They are my biggest motivation and they inspire me to keep going…”
Later on after a full day of filming, Amanda received a text from a birth mother from the support group.
“Thank you for being there for us when we needed someone! You helped us all realize that we had a voice and that we should be proud to use it❤”
