Everybody needs a support system, or at the very least someone who can relate to their circumstance or situation. However, often times – people may not have a safety net of family and/or friends they can rely on for judgment free advice.

Which is why blogs have become a great resource for those looking for guidance. Adoption stories are different for every family – and one can learn a lot from bloggers who have decided to share their adoption journeys.

Take a look at some of our favorite adoption blogs of 2016:

Millions of Miles

Two of our kids came to us the old fashioned way (please, don’t picture it) and two of them came to us by way of international adoption from the DR Congo. I love to write about adoption and advocate for the orphans left behind in Congo. You name it- we’ve been through it: post-partum and post adoption depression, reactive attachment disorder, sensory processing disorder, a hard as heck adoption transition, PTSD. And while, yeah, I talk about that stuff in a scary honest way, mostly what you’ll find here is encouragement for the journey and an anecdote or two about my wild kids (or the embarrassing things I do on a near daily basis) to make you laugh and get you through your day.

Welcome To My Brain

Michael and Christine have five children entered their home via adoption and, ya’ know … the other way. Each child has some sort of special need. Some are based on early trauma experiences. The rest probably have more to do with living life with such a dork mom and a super bald dad. That’s enough to tank any kid. Michael and Christine “separated” in 2012, but continued on as housemates. The legally divorced in 2015, but have been co-parenting and working to maintain a consistent home for their kids.

Every Bitter Thing is Sweet

I’m Sara, a mama to five (almost 6) who is learning to see God’s thread in life’s middle minutes. I’m an adoption lover who is still dating my best friend and I’m writing here in the extra margins of life. I wrote a book — Every Bitter Thing is Sweet — that was published by Zondervan and they’re publishing another one of my books not too long from now. I love words and I love Him.

The Big Long Wait

I originally started this blog in June 2011 as a way for friends and family to keep up with us, and stay up to date with where we were in our adoption process. I began blogging not long after we finished the mountain of paperwork that is required in an adoption, and then Kevin and I settled in for what we were prepared to be a BIG LONG WAIT (hence, the address of this blog). Lucky for us, God chose to bless us with a child much sooner than we expected! Our [first] daughter Kate was born August 10, 2011, just 4 months after we were officially placed on the waiting list.

Rage Against The Minivan

If you are looking for a blog with great ideas for kids, amazing craft inspiration, scrapbooking help and stunning photography, then AWESOME. There are a lot of those blogs out there. You should find them. Here, you might find the musings about the impact of the skinny jean on Kristen’s self-esteem, her tendency to spill food on her laptop… She also indulges in sleep-deprived rants about parenting, poop, adoption…etc

Lavender Luz

I write from Denver, and I’m passionate about de-freakifying open adoption and ending discrimination against adoptees. I’m in the trenches figuring out this parenting thing. I notice perfect moments and encourage you to do so, as well. I am a New Age Libertarian. I study the chakras, practice yoga and ayurveda, and tell stories.
