Bucks County, PA
Located in Pennsylvania and part of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Bucks County is known as the 4th most populated county in the state. The county was named after Buckinghamshire, a county in England. Bucks County is directly northeast of Philadelphia and forms part of the eastern state border with New Jersey’s southern portion.
History
Founded by Colonial William Penn back in 1682, Bucks County was one of three counties established including Montgomery and Delaware County. Several places in the county were named after their English counterpart, some examples are as follows:
- Buckingham and Buckingham Township were named after Buckinghamshire towns
- Chalfont was named after Chalfont St Giles, the parish home of William Penn’s first wife and the site of the Jordans Quaker Meeting House, where Penn is buried
- Solebury Township was named after Soulbury
- Wycombe was named after the town of High Wycombe
