Adoptions From the Heart (AFTH) is excited to be announcing our upcoming 2025 Spring Educational Series, with classes taking place in April and May. This series of courses is geared towards prospective adoptive parents. The classes will explore several topics relating to the adoption experience. The classes are held on ZOOM and are open to all families in our service area (PA, NY, NJ, CT, DE, VA). These courses fulfill AFTH’s continuing education requirements. Take a look at the courses that are being offered this Spring below.

Adoptive Parent Panel: Journey of Open Adoption Through the Years 

This class will include an Adoptive Parent panel featuring families that have placed over 5 years ago. They will share their journeys of openness with birthparents and children. They will discuss how their open adoptions began and evolved over the years.  

This class will take place on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:30-8:00 PM. 

The registration deadline is April 9th.  

The class is $30 per family.  

Adopting an Older Child: What Adoptive Parents Need to Know  

This class is for adoptive parents who are considering adopting a non-newborn, including toddlers and school age children. This series class will explore issues specific to older children, including placement visits, medical history, and day care/school enrollment. The class will also help families learn how to prepare a child to transition into an adoptive family, as well as create an open relationship with the birth family. The course will also include a panel of adoptive parents who have been placed with an older child, so that you can hear about their experiences and ask questions.  

This class will take place on Wednesday, April 23rd from 6:30-8:00 PM.  

The registration deadline is April 16th.  

The class is $30 per family. 

Elevating Adoptee Voices: Adoptee Panel  

This class is all about lifting adoptee voicing and learning more about the experiences of being an adoptee. This course will have a panel of adult adoptees of different backgrounds including International Adoption, Domestic Adoption, Transracial Adoption, etc. You are not going to want to miss hearing from the most important members of the adoption triad on their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. The panelists will also be open for any questions from attendees.  

This class will take place on Wednesday, May 7th from 6:00-7:30 PM.  

The registration deadline is April 30th.  

The class is $30 per family. 

Panel: Navigating Challenging Circumstances with Placement 

In this class you will hear from a panel of Adoption from the Heart adoptive parents who had to navigate various challenging circumstances during their waiting and placement journeys. Panelists will also be open to answer any questions from attendees during the class.  

This class will take place on Wednesday, May 14th from 6:00-7:30 PM.  

The registration deadline is May 7th.  

The class is $30 per family. 

Prenatal Drug and Alcohol Exposure  

Adoptions from the Heart aims to help families make informed decisions about their profile keys. Dr. Erin Meyer will teach this class. She is a pediatric hospitalist who works in the neonatal intensive care unit and an adoptive mother. Dr. Meyer will discuss the effects of prenatal drug and alcohol exposure, withdrawal symptoms, and short and long-term impacts. Families often feel more confident opening their keys after this class. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask Dr. Meyer any questions.

The registration deadline for each class is one week before the webinar.  

The class is $100 per family and the link for the webinar is emailed 1-2 business days after registering.  

6-Hour On-Demand Childcare Webinar 

In collaboration with Adoptions from the Heart, New Parents Academy created a 6-hour course covering Baby Gear, Newborn Care, Soothing, Newborn Sleep, Bonding, and more. The course also includes five printable/checklists. Access is for two years, so videos can be rewatched at any time. 

The webinar is $247 per family and can be purchased on the Adoptions from the Heart website.
