Last weekend on Sunday April 2nd, AFTH hosted our 5th annual Find Her Footing 5k at Delaware County Community College in Media, Pa. It was day full of fun, fitness and fundraising, which benefitted the Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund.
Before the Race
Runners arrived early – to check in or register last minute. We had over 200 assorted bagels, a banana stand and limeade stand for runners to enjoy before or after the race. Since this year’s theme was “Superman was adopted too”, we had justice league and other super hero props for photos, and a surprise appearance by Superman himself.
Before runners took their mark at the starting line, we allowed the kids to get in on the fun. Our mini superheroes got a chance to soar high in our Kid’s Dash, which allowed them to sprint as fast as they could in a quick race around a loop. Afterwards, they all received certificates, official superhero masks and no superhero race is complete without superhero lollipops! Afterwards, they celebrated their victories by flying high in the moon bounce, provided by Boing Bounce House Rentals!
In addition, one of AFTH’s amazing birth mothers Imani – addressed the crowd and spoke of the importance of the Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund, and how it helped her during her pregnancy and after she gave birth.
The Race
Over 130 runners and walkers participated in this year’s Find Her Footing 5k and 1 mile Super Fun Run! The course includes hills, which presents an exciting challenge for runners and walkers of all levels. Many adoptive families walked together to show their support of adoption.
The top finisher completed the 3.1 miles in 18 minutes and 31 seconds – while 2 others came close finishing in 19 minutes.
Family and friends of all participants were waiting at the finish line cheering on their loved ones as they crossed the finished line.
After the Race
We concluded the day by and selecting raffle winners and presenting awards to top finisher in each age category. Overall top male and female finisher, received an entry to the Color Run of Philadelphia this June.
Overall, it was an amazing day – and we cannot wait until next year’s Find Her Footing 5k!
Thank you to all of our 2017 donors and sponsors!
