Spring is finally here! To kick it off, we have some family crafts we know you’ll love. These crafts will get the whole family to sit around the table and spend some time together. Afterward, you can use your finished products as decorations around the house and send a few keepsakes to your child’s birth parents! Here are a few things you and your family can do together this Spring.
Painted Plant Potters
This craft is very simple and only requires a little bit of creativity! You’ll need acrylic paint or paint markers, ceramic or papier mache planters, and seeds/bulbs. If you don’t have the best green thumb, try a cactus or garden-ready flowers that come pre-bloomed!
- Paint your ceramic or papier mache plant pots.
- Give them some time to dry.
- Add some dirt and plant your seeds, bulbs, or garden-ready flowers.
- Water your plants and leave them in the sun. (We recommend following your plants’ watering and sunlight instructions.)
- Watch them bloom!
Give your birth parents a heartwarming keepsake when you send them these plant potters with a seed waiting to bloom. These plant potters can also make the day of your parents or anyone who loves your kid(s)!
Bunny Treat Envelopes
Bunny envelopes can be filled with candy to replace a huge basket. They’re perfect for gifting small kids candy. Materials include envelopes, pom-poms for decoration, markers, scissors, and candy (jelly beans, fun-sized candy, etc.). Colored paper is optional.
First, you’ll pre-cut pairs of bunny ears, then we’re done with the scissors. (*If you choose to use colored paper, cut smaller, individual ears out and paste into the center of each bunny ear.) Next, have your kids color the inside of their bunny ears pink or whatever they want. Paste, staple, or tape your bunny ears onto the tops of the envelopes. Use a black marker to give your bunnies some eyes, and add a pom-pom for the nose. Finally, fill your envelopes with candy and seal them tightly.
Your kids can gift these to each other, their friends, teachers, or classmates!
Decorated Treat Bags
These decorated treat bags are even easier crafts than the bunny envelope candy bags. They also do not require any parent preparation! All you need are small cloth drawstring bags, acrylic paint, and candy. The kids can paint these however they want — with flowers, butterflies, their name, etc. Fill them up with candy, and you’re done! Like the bunny envelopes, you can hand out your treat bags or use them to parcel candy to your kid(s).
Painted Suncatchers
This family craft is perfect for everyone — including parents. Use a suncatcher painting kit from any craft store near you. Play some music or let the TV run while your family sits and paints their suncatchers. When you’re done, just place them around the house on the window sills or hang them! They’ll reflect your beautiful paintings around each room all Spring.
Including All The Family In Craft Day
We all love handmade gifts from kids because they make you feel included and loved. AFTH encourages you to include all of your family in your craft day by sharing your child’s creations with anyone who has been by your side through your parenthood journey. From birth parents to your own parents, brighten their week with a handmade keepsake from the heart. Enjoy your Spring!
