History
Valley Forge National Historical Park is known as the historical site belonging to the Continental Army under General George Washington, between the years of 1777 to 1778. With the historical grounds, monuments, and objects all around the park, there’s a reason it makes its mark as one of the most defining events in the history of the United States.
Places To Visit
On the grounds of the park, you’ll find various historical places to see, such as buildings, monuments, statues, estates, and more. The most popular stops to see are the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts that were reconstructed to General Washington’s liking and is also the main site for the Parks history program.
Washington’s Headquarters and Varnum’s Quarters are two additional must-see buildings while visiting the museum as they tell stories of the people that resided in them during the winter encampment.
All throughout the park, you’ll see plenty of monuments dedicated to generals, brigades, arches, and more. A few favorites are the National Memorial Arch, Baron on Steuben’s Statue, Patriots of African Descent Monument, and the General Anthony Wayne Monument.
Tours & Trails
During your visit, be sure to schedule the Encampment Driving Tour, where you can take you and your family on a self-guided tour through Valley Forge down nine major tour stops all throughout scenic views and historic sites.
If you’d rather take the family on a nature hike, the park contains 35 miles of marked hiking trails that range from beginner levels to advanced. Along with the hiking trails, there are 19 miles worth of biking trails if that is something you might be interested in.
No matter what you choose, Valley Forge has an endless amount of family fun activities and sightseeing for you and your family to enjoy.
