Located near Bryn Mawr, Rosemont is a neighborhood in Lower Merion Township and is known as the home to Rosemont College.

Neighborhood History

One of the oldest mansions in Rosemont is called Joseph Sinnott Mansion, also known as “Rathalla,” in Gaelic that translates to “home of the chieftain on the highest hill.” The mansion is a part of Rosemont College and acts as the Main Building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1960.

Within Rosemont, “Beaupre” stands as a 200-acre estate established for Alexander Casssatt’s son. The original mansion is still standing, and the original French iron gates surround the entrances from Conestoga Road and South Ithan Avenue.

Education

Rosemont offers both primary and secondary schools for the residents to attend. Radnor Township School District and Lower Merion School District cover the entire neighborhood of Rosemont and offer both public and private schooling options.

The Holy Child School, located across the street from Rosemont College, is a private school for both girls and boys and is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Another private school, Agnes Irwin School, is an all-girls day school for grades PreK through 12th grade, run by Ms. Agns Irwin and her sister.

Rosemont College, a private Catholic liberal arts college, was founded in 1921 and remained a symbol of Rosemont as it continues to offer amazing educational programs for its students.
